Conversion to a Limited Liability Partnership
We are pleased to share that Attwaters converted from a partnership to a Limited Liability Partnership on 1 April 2025. This briefly explains the effect of the change, the reasoning behind it, and how it impacts our clients.
Legal effect
From the conversion date, Attwaters Solicitors LLP (the LLP) took on all the obligations and liabilities of Attwaters (the Partnership). All lawyers and staff automatically transferred to the LLP and have continued working as usual to handle your matters as instructed. The LLP will now assume responsibility for your matters and all our future obligations to you.
Our Terms of Business for existing work remains unchanged, except that from 1 April 2025, the Terms of Business applies to the LLP (instead of the Partnership).
Money we are holding for you
If we held any money on your behalf on the conversion date, these funds continue to be held by the LLP in the same client account. The conversion has not affected the terms on which any monies are held, or the timing of any transactions.
To combat the risks of cyber fraud, we have not changed the sort codes or account numbers for any of our client and office accounts. However, our account name changed to Attwaters Solicitors LLP on 1 April 2025. If you receive any requests to send money to different accounts, please do not comply, as the requests will not have been made by the Partnership or the LLP. Instead, please notify us by calling the lawyer who deals with your case.
Your continuing instructions
We have proceeded with the conversion on the basis that your continuing instructions are confirmation that you are content to instruct the LLP to act for you on the same terms, and to hold any client monies on your behalf. If you would prefer to sign a new agreement, or no longer wish to instruct us, please let us know. Your usual contact at the firm will be happy to discuss the conversion with you and answer any questions you may have.
How the conversion affects you
It has always been important to us to provide you with a high standard of work, and there will be no change to the services you receive from us, or the cost of those services. The same people will be carrying out your work from the same office, with the same telephone numbers and email addresses, and they will all continue to work with your best interests in mind in accordance with the instructions you have given.
There will be no significant change to the operation or management of the firm and the only obvious change will be to our registered name. From 1 April 2025, our letterheads, emails and invoices changed to Attwaters Solicitors LLP. If you had any outstanding bills at the date of the conversion, they have automatically transferred to the LLP.
The conversion affects the personal liability of partners. The partners were personally liable for claims against the Partnership, but they are not personally liable for claims against the LLP. The same arrangements for professional indemnity insurance applies to the LLP as they do to the Partnership.
As part of this change, we have updated our branding, which you will notice in all our communications and public materials.
The Legal Services Act 2007
There are no changes to the rights you enjoy by instructing a solicitors’ practice authorised under the Legal Services Act 2007: Attwaters Solicitors LLP is regulated by the SRA and there are no changes to any rights you have to complain to the Legal Ombudsman.
Next steps
You do not need to do anything unless you have a question or wish to discuss how the conversion affects your particular circumstances.
