Attwaters’ staff stories – Zoe North
We’re proud to be recognised as a Sunday Times Best Place to Work and Top 10 medium-sized organisation – and it’s all down to our brilliant people. In the latest of our staff stories, we meet Zoe North, a Trainee Solicitor, to find out more about life at Attwaters.
Meet Zoe North
Zoe joined Attwaters in May 2022 as a Paralegal in the Commercial department, then began her training contract in January 2025. She was initially drawn to the firm because “it has a great reputation for working with businesses in the local community. I also knew I would have the opportunity to build my professional skills alongside competent and knowledgeable professionals.”
Roles and responsibilities
As a Trainee Solicitor, Zoe works across four different departments, assisting with a variety of tasks so she’s ready to hit the ground running when she qualifies. Some of her day-to-day tasks include attending client meetings, drafting and filing court documents, and conducting legal research. Zoe regularly collaborates with paralegals and business support teams: “the aim is to work as a team to help achieve our client’s goals.”
What Zoe has learned
Reflecting on her time at Attwaters, Zoe says, “I have had the opportunity to work with insightful leaders who have not only understood my professional journey but have invested time in my development.”
Zoe is proud of the legal knowledge she has gained in the last three years and considers herself to be a good all-rounder. “The most important lesson I have learned is to always consider the entire picture when reviewing our client’s situation. Tailoring legal solutions to our clients is the key to ensuring they know they are in safe hands.”
Work/life balance
To achieve a good work/life balance, Zoe has always been encouraged to plan her day to ensure all her work is completed within office hours. “I can leave work knowing everything has been done to the best of my ability and will be ready to pick up the next day.”
Social and wellbeing
Zoe was one of the first people to join the Social Wellbeing Committee. She explains, “I have enjoyed the opportunity to organise events that make my colleagues’ working lives a little brighter. It’s extremely motivating”. Zoe particularly enjoys taking part in the walking groups and yearly steps challenge. “I have always viewed this as a multifaceted activity as it promotes physical health, mental wellbeing, social connection, and a little friendly competition.”
Life at Attwaters
What Zoe values most about Attwaters is the people. “There’s so much expertise and collaboration. And we all come from a variety of backgrounds, which gives our workplace a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.” She also praises the firm for its fair and open culture – “I feel valued and accepted for who I am when I come to work, which helps me deliver my role with more confidence and authenticity.”
