Attwaters’ staff stories – Stephanie Holmes
It was an honour to be recognised by the Sunday Times as one of the best places to work in the UK. What’s more, we were ranked in the Top 10 for medium-sized organisations. So, we’re sitting down with some of our excellent staff members to find out what makes Attwaters such a great workplace. Today, we’re speaking with Stephanie Holmes, Partner and Solicitor in our Family Law team.
Meet Stephanie Holmes
Stephanie’s journey with Attwaters started when she left school and was looking to work in an office environment. She then rejoined the firm in 2000 as she was offered an opportunity to commence her legal studies and develop her role. “I would not have embarked on a career in law had it not been for the support and belief the firm showed in me,” Stephanie reflects.
Stephanie’s career progression
Stephanie trained to be a Legal Executive whilst working at Attwaters, then took the conversion route to become a Solicitor. In recent years, she became a Partner and is now enjoying building her business skills. “As I have progressed throughout the years, the kind of support I have needed has changed, but it’s always been there and is equally invaluable”, Stephanie says.
A proud moment
For Stephanie, graduating as a Solicitor was a career highlight. “My qualification route was long-winded as my studies were outside my working hours”, she explains. She reflects proudly on a case in which she successfully challenged a Cafcass recommendation and helped to change a child’s residence. “I know I made a positive difference to that child’s life – and that, to me, is what being a Family Solicitor is all about.”
Work/life balance
We asked Stephanie how Attwaters has helped her achieve a good work/life balance. “I am a single parent, and they have always been accommodating. I am now a hybrid worker, which really helps in achieving that balance.” She adds, “Having a realistic case load is also key.”
Life at Attwaters
Stephanie likes to maintain strong relationships with her colleagues by participating in wellbeing events such as bingo, bake-offs and staff walks. When asked what she loves most about working at Attwaters, Stephanie replies, “The people. Attwaters has become my home because of the people who have believed in me and given me opportunities.” We were proud to hear that Stephanie described the company culture as “diverse”, as Attwaters is committed to building an inclusive and supportive workplace.
